WHAT DO WE DO

We are a community based service meaning we can carry out assessments and treatments in a variety of settings. Usually this is in the home environment but can also be in school, nursery, gym, day centre - even in the park!

We can work closely with local NHS and school physiotherapists as we believe that communication and working together is an essential component of effective therapy.

AQUATIC THERAPY / HYDROTHERAPY

Aquatic therapy (hydrotherapy) is beneficial for reducing muscle tone and stiffness, improving strength and enabling a person to achieve many positions and movements that they might not be able to do on land. If you have your own pool and would like aquatic therapy please get in touch to discuss this.

We are also able to offer 1:1 aquatic therapy sessions in a purpose built, hoist accessible pool in Poole.

BABY DEVELOPMENTAL ASSESSMENT

You may have concerns that your child isn’t meeting their developmental milestones such as rolling, sitting or crawling or they may have an existing condition which is affecting progress. We complete a comprehensive assessment through play to provide guidance as to how you can help them to progress

Surgery

REHABILITATION

We are experienced in providing blocks of physiotherapy to target strengthening, stretching, posture and gait after treatments such as botulinum toxin injections, orthopaedic surgery and selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR). We understand that children need to have fun and be motivated to engage in their post-op physiotherapy to gain the maximum benefit from this

POSTURAL MANAGEMENT ASSESSMENT

Children and adults with neurodisabilities such as cerebral palsy or muscular dystrophy require protection of their body shape to prevent pain and maximise participation in daily life. We are able to complete a comprehensive, specialist assessment of body shape, range of movement, muscle tone and posture to make recommendations on an appropriate postural management program. This assessment might be needed if someone is experiencing pain, poor tolerance of their specialist equipment or recent illness/surgery which has altered their body shape

We are able to complete assessments for self funded or charity funded specialist equipment such as standing frames, walkers, sleep systems and adapted trikes. We do this in conjunction with our equipment rep colleagues from a variety of different companies

NEUROLOGICAL CONDITIONS

We can work with children with a wide range of neurological conditions such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, rare genetic conditions, acquired brain injury and muscular dystrophy. We also have experience of working with adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD). We can provide one off assessments or regular sessions. We will liaise with other agencies which the individual attends such as school, nursery or adult day centre. We can provide written programs and training to education staff or carers to support with carrying out physiotherapy exercises outside of 1:1 sessions.

ACCESS TO SPORT AND LEISURE ACTIVITIES

We strongly believe that everyone should be able to take part in physical activity and exercise. For individuals with a physical or learning disability there can be lots of barriers to overcome and those caring for them can feel overwhelmed and not know how to support them. Following an initial consultation about your goals and aspirations we can make a plan for how you will access the activity of your choice. This might be by accompanying you to one or more sessions of an existing club to assist with making adaptations and adjustments appropriate to your needs or it could be by carrying out an assessment for equipment such as a walker or adapted bike. We can be very flexible and innovative and our aim is that we can empower individuals and their families to have the confidence and the knowledge to continue participating in physical activity in the long term without us.
